Edinburgh Castle

First off on our list is perhaps the most iconic site in any capital city across the world. This is of course the one and only Edinburgh Castle. Standing an impressive 443 feet above sea level, this magnificent castle looms above the capital city of Edinburgh sitting atop Castle Rock, a volcanic crag. The mount has been home to human activity for over 3,000 years dating back to Celtic civilisations.

The castle is the number one tourist attraction in Edinburgh, this is due to what you can get up to once you’re inside. Home to the St Margaret’s Chapel, The National War Memorial and the Half Moon Battery you can explore these to your heart contents before you visit the real jewel of Edinburgh (pun intended) Scotland’s Crown Jewels.

National Museum of Scotland

Uncover the secrets of the natural world at the National Museum of Scotland formed in 2006 this museum has a hugely diverse range of art & design exhibits it also features different interactive exhibits and displays. The museum is truly suitable for all and a family trip will have you leaving feeling content with your day out, and the best bit is… it’s FREE!
